My twin girls, Haley and Lindsay, will be high school seniors in the fall, so this summer we plan to visit some of the colleges they’re considering. We’ll be going to see the University of Central Florida in Orlando and the University of South Florida in Tampa.
I thought I’d also talk them into seeing the University of Miami, which is much closer to home. It also happens to be where many of my own high school buddies went, and I remember how much they liked it. So I went to the school’s website to check the tuition costs. Glad I did because there’s no way my kids are going there. Total sticker-shock!
The tuition, room and board is $62,342. PER YEAR! That’s even more than Harvard ($60,659 per year), another school my girls will definitely not be attending, though for reasons other than price.
So, why am I telling you about the University of Miami? The property I’m featuring today is The Collection Residences, which by coincidence, happens to be just up the road from the university. Read on for details.
The Collection Residences will soon be Coral Gables’ newest condominium.
Luxury Condos at The Collection Residences
The Collection Residences is a new, exclusive condo building to be built in the center of Coral Gables at Altara Avenue, a private residential enclave within one of Miami’s most desirable neighborhoods.
Everything about The Collection Residences will be first class.
It will have only 126 condos, and the building itself is being called “a modern reflection of historic Coral Gables.” It will feature “quintessential nineteenth-century, Mediterranean Revival-style architecture” with stunning contemporary interiors.
The ground floor will feature high-end retail shops and a well-appointed lobby.

The Collection Residences will have high-end features inside and out. The ground floor will contain retail shops. A private courtyard and large pool and sundeck will offer a relaxing environment.

Exceptional Condos
The individual condos at The Collection Residences will have expansive floor plan layouts with garden balconies that combine indoor and outdoor living space.
The rooms will have grand ceiling heights and custom Barausse solid wood doors with polished chrome hardware made in Italy.
High ceilings and garden balconies will give a feeling of unlimited spaciousness.
Kitchens will feature custom-designed Snaidero kitchen cabinetry, Italian marble countertops and backsplash and Miele professional grade appliances.
Kitchens will have top-of-the-line appliances, marble countertops and custom cabinetry.
The master bath will be equally impressive with Italian custom-designed Milldue suspended cabinetry with back-lit wall mirror. Polished, imported Italian marble will grace the floor, base and walls. A separate soaker tub will have Zucchetti faucets and fixtures made of brushed nickel.
Ensuite master baths will be a luxurious oasis on par with a high-end spa.
The units will come with Bosch front-loading washer and dryers. They’ll also have the latest technology systems including HDTV, private wireless network, communication with building services and amenities via Smartphone, and keyless residential entry via smart lock system.
Open floor plans will create a seamless flow from room to room.
An Impressive Development Team
The Collection Residences are being developed by Ugo Colombo/CMC Group, one of the most successful developers in South Florida with many upscale residential projects to its name including Epic, Santa Maria and Bristol Tower.
Ugo is teaming up with one of South Florida’s preeminent residential builders, Masood Shojaee/Shoma Group, who has designed and constructed over 10,000 single family homes and townhomes, including my personal residence in Pembroke Pines.
The architect for The Collection Residences is the well-known group Arquitectonica. Although based in Miami, it has completed projects in 54 countries on five continents. Its most well-known projects include the Microsoft Europe Headquarters in Paris, the Bronx Museum and Westin Times Square in New York, the Philips Arena in Atlanta and the American Airlines Arena in Miami.
Finally, the building interiors will be designed by Massimo Iosa Ghini, considered one of the best-acclaimed Italian architects on the international scene with his works found in numerous museums and private collections.
The City Beautiful
Coral Gables, where The Collection Residences will be built, has long been dubbed “The City Beautiful.” It is known for its tree-lined boulevards, ivy-covered mansions and historical landmarks such as the world-famous Biltmore Hotel and the Venetian Pool, both built in the 1920s.
Coral Gables is adjacent to Miami, putting it within easy reach of the Port of Miami, where the giant cruise ships dock. It’s also close to Miami International Airport, downtown Miami, Coconut Grove and Miami Beach.
Coral Gables is located adjacent to Miami, convenient to Miami Airport and the Port of Miami.
Within Coral Gables is the shopping and dining paradise of the “Miracle Mile,” which attracts visitors worldwide.
The Fairchild Tropical Garden is an 83-acre natural preserve with walking trails that wind around 11 lakes and hundreds of exotic tropical trees and plants.
The Granada and Biltmore golf courses are the perfect spots for players looking for a relaxing round of golf amid beautiful scenery.
Known worldwide for its beautiful flora and fauna, Matheson Hammock Park spans 600 acres and the park has attracted nature-lovers and boaters for years.
Coral Gables is also an art lover’s paradise. Known as one of South Florida’s premier centers for the arts, the city is home to dozens of art galleries. And located on the University of Miami campus is the world-renowned Lowe Art Museum, with over 12,000 freestanding objects.
Condos Can Be Reserved Now
Groundbreaking on The Collection Residences is scheduled for the end of 2015. Construction is expected to be complete by 2018.

The condos are available with one to three bedrooms. They range in size from 1,120 to 4,009 square feet. There are also several duplex townhomes that are 2,242 square feet.
Condos can be reserved now with a 10% deposit.
Prices range from $641,000 to $1,928,000+. They can be reserved now at pre-construction prices with a 10% deposit.

College Costs
I started this write-up by telling you about the college campus tours I’ll soon be taking with my daughters.
These are the two kids who will bankrupt me sending them to college.
I thought I’d also share some of the outrageous facts I’ve recently learned about colleges in the U.S. If you’ve got college-bound kids like me, you’ll probably find them alarming (the facts; not the kids).
It is 400% more expensive to go to college today than it was 30 years ago.
Approximately 2/3 of all college students graduate with student loan debt.
The average student loan debt is $23,700.
Student debt, at over $875 billion, has surpassed all credit card debt combined.
